FROM BUD TO BED

At Flaneur House, providing our clients with outstanding craftsmanship, superior construction, and an enhanced experience is of utmost importance. In the meantime, we hold ourselves responsible for minimizing our environmental impact at every stage of the process, and we only collaborate with factories and workshops that have demonstrated a high level of environmental consciousness.

We work hard to develop a dyeing, weaving, sewing, and finishing process from bud to bed with two goals in mind: to create the most sophisticated colours and to manufacture in an ethical and sustainable manner.

Flaneur House is dedicated to producing a bedding experience unlike any other and reviving the art form of luxury bedding craftsmanship.

SUPIMA® COTTON

A superior variety of cotton cultivated in choice regions in the US is called Supima® cotton. The extra-long staple fibre that gives Supima® cotton its superior qualities—strength, softness, and colour retention—sets it apart from other types of cotton.

The cultivation of Supima® cotton employs cutting-edge techniques and technologies. Supima® farmers use a variety of technologies to grow the highest-quality cotton possible while having the least negative environmental impact. These tools include soil monitors, satellite technology, and GPS navigation utilised on tractors to plant and harvest cotton.

Supima® cotton is grown only in the west and southwest states of California, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico. Supima® is the trademark used to promote American-grown, extra-long staple cotton. To bear the Supima® trademark, products must be sourced through a licensed supply chain.

Flaneur House is the first-known brand to invest in independent DNA testing, which guarantees that the bedding fabric is actually woven entirely of Supima® cotton.

LYOCELL
All of our bedding is sewn using 100% biodegradable Lyocell thread made from the wood pulp of the eucalyptus tree. This fiber is produced with minimal impact to the environment in an award-winning closed-loop process that recovers or decomposes all solvents and emissions. It is an expensive but ideal replacement of the traditional polyester sewing thread, which is similar to plastic bags, cannot be easily resolved once produced.

This thread is sourced from a one-hundred-year-old German manufacturer.

ZIPPERS
All of Flaneur House's duvet covers are closed with the best zippers in the world, Riri® zippers, which are manufactured in Switzerland. The ionized zipper's delicate cool grey tone is carefully chosen to match a strap made of a similar toned fabric, ensuring that the zipper's overall appearance is subtle and subtly complements any colour you'd like. Furthermore, the Riri® Group is committed to sustainability and continuous enhancement of its performance levels concerning the environmental impact of carbon dioxide emissions and water consumption.

NO OPTICAL-WHITE & THE GARMENT DYE

Optical white, also known as "hotel white”, is achieved through heavy bleaching, which creates negative environmental and social impacts, going against our core philosophies and aesthetics. Flaneur House's white are the natural whites of Supima® Cotton.

Each bed sheet, duvet cover, pillowcase, and sham is dyed and pre-washed, using no toxic chemicals, one at a time, by boutique, family-operated dye houses located in the Los Angeles area.

A "garment" dye lot, which is a small-batch method akin to a washing machine, is used for the dyeing process. This creates a richer, more sophisticated, and lived-in colour shade while having a significantly smaller environmental impact due to the significantly reduced energy use. The process also allows the staff member to manually check the shade at any point during the process, stop the machine if needed, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the perfect outcome each and every time.

FOCUS ON CRAFTSMANSHIP

Flaneur House employs a technique that tightly weaves a sateen fabric that offers the perfect combination of breathability and warmth, the softness and the sturdiness. The 1-ply, 1-pick sateen, 400-thread count is highest possible thread count achievable in a single square inch of fabric. It has a wonderful sheen that complements the beautiful colour shade.

Anchored in a history that dates back to 1835, a select team of tailors sews every piece of Flaneur House bedding. The precision of design and execution of hand-sewn French seams at every corner are the result of generations of study, craftsmanship, and teamwork.

Personal engagement, consistency, and quality assurance are at the forefront of every piece that leaves the factory. At Flaneur House, quality control is performed piece by piece as opposed to one in a thousand. Before the piece is ready for delivery, we check and approve the weaving, sewing, and colour consistency.
